The Trump administration is preparing guidance to give states get far more leeway in how they design their Medicaid programs. States would still have to adhere to certain requirements in exchange for a capped allotment, but could pursue changes that better fit their states, such as giving more people currently on Medicaid access to private coverage. “We invite states to bring forward their best ideas, and we will evaluate them to ensure their compliance with the goals of the program,” the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, which oversees the program, said in a statement.
